Special “thank you” to the Hall County 4H Pony Club for inviting MWHR to their meeting last night to talk about our organization and how we are helping mustangs in Georgia. We hope to see some of their members at our upcoming events!

Adoption Update – Wren
MWHR is thrilled that longtime resident mustang, Wren, has finally found a wonderful home. She has settled in nicely as a pasture companion for her new buddy, Comanche. Best of all, she is only a few miles around the corner from us so we’ll still get to see her. Special “thank you” to Jennifer at Dr. Marcella’s office for sending this new home our way!!
In Loving Memory of Spark Plug “Sparky”
In Loving Memory of Spark Plug “Sparky”
1/1/1998 – 10/25/2017
On October 25th, 2017 we had to say “goodbye” to MWHR resident mustang Sparky. Sparky came to MWHR several years ago with another mustang, Sweetie Pie and was trained by our Founder, David Hesse. Unfortunately, Sparky suffered from COPD which had to be carefully managed by steroids. One of the side effects of long term steroid use in horses is laminitis or founder. About six weeks ago, Sparky started suffering from a serious laminitic episode and despite all efforts, his condition continued to worsen. Ultimately there was nothing else we could do to help him and his condition was causing him great pain. MWHR is extremely grateful to all of those who worked so hard to help Sparky the past six weeks. A very special “thank you” goes to Dr. Kaylin Touche with KLM Equine for the countless hours of research and consultations, as well as loving support she gave Sparky not just in the past six weeks, but in the last two years. Sparky will be greatly missed but we know that he is finally running free again.
MWHR Volunteers!
WMHR was so fortunate to have German Exchange Student, Valeska, visiting us for a week in September. Valeska is so passionate about working with horses and really wanted to learn to work with American mustangs. At home in Germany, she has trained her Spanish riding horse and Shetland ponies. This young lady was such a hard worker during her stay, helping to care for all our mustangs and keep the farm spotless! In addition, she made great training progress with Molly by doing ground work with her every day. It was such a pleasure having Valeska visit MWHR. We miss her already and hope she’ll get the opportunity to come back and visit us again soon! 🙂
Girl Scout volunteers @ MWHR
MWHR hosted a local Girl Scout Troop on Sunday, September 24th so that the young ladies could learn about mustangs, rescue and horse care in order to earn a new badge. Everyone had a great time and got to interact with MWHR farm residents Molly, Smoochie, Wren, Ally and Flicka. Special “thank you” to Stephanie and Valeska (our German exchange student) for helping with the horses.
MWHR @ HorseFest
On September 16th, we participated in HorseFest at Little Creek Farm in Decatur, GA. It was a beautiful day and we raised over $550 for MWHR thanks to the hard work of our volunteers (Alba and Michele), who tirelessly painted faces all afternoon. These ladies are amazing and did such a great job! Also, special thanks to Chris L. for bringing Angel out to “meet and greet” as our mustang ambassador.
