Volunteering

Become A Volunteer:

It takes a lot of people power to keep things running at the farm. We need volunteers to do much of the physical labor needed to keep the rescue running smoothly and the horses well cared for at our Canton location.

Our volunteer program is designed to bring people who have a deep love and respect for horses, especially mustangs, together with horses that need love and respect. Our hope is that volunteers will acquire the knowledge to interact with horses in a positive manner. By learning and demonstrating levels of responsibility and knowledge, our volunteers will advance to the point of teaching others.

General Volunteer Activities:

  • Grooming & Feeding
  • Training Horses
  • Mucking out stalls
  • Fence Mending
  • Painting
  • And more!!

If you have other skills that could support the rescue please consider assisting one of our committees with planning and working at special events and fundraisers, writing articles or helping to secure sponsorship for MWHR.

Volunteer Orientation:

Volunteers will need to fill out the Volunteer & Community Service Application, the Release Agreement, and complete an orientation prior to working with our horses.

Young people under the age of 18 must attend a volunteer orientation with a parent or legal guardian so they can understand the rules and benefits of volunteering before they start. Horse experience is not required; however, one must be at least 15-years old to volunteer, unless accompanied by a parent. Parents of children under the age of 15 must work alongside their child and supervise them, which is an absolutely wonderful bonding experience. Children under the age of 15 may not be left at the facility without a parent or guardian unless specific arrangements are made in advance with the facility director.

This is a great opportunity to learn, volunteer, and get to know the horses we have at the rescue. If you ever thought about volunteering, this is the time.

Community Service Inquiries:

Hours worked at MWHR count toward satisfying court ordered community service. We have limited openings, but there is always plenty of work for each opening. Please use the  “Volunteer Application” page to inquire about working with us.

These magnificent creatures are very responsive to love and respect, join your heart with theirs as we care for them as a team!
